Bucking bulls highlight of rodeo

28 Apr, 2010 05:00 AM
Well, it's over for another year. And wasn't it a good one?

Didn't those bulls fire on Saturday night?

I've seen a lot of rodeos in my time, but I've rarely seen bulls buck any better than that.

In the Tony Hudson shoot-out at the end of Saturday night's program, not one cowboy rode time.

Spectacular would be a good word to describe it.

The junior rodeo on Friday night proved to be a popular innovation, and will probably happen again.

The campdrafting was as well attended as ever, with plenty of entries.

There was only one minor mishap, over the two days of pretty keen competition, when one mount dropped his head in the camp, and unloaded its rider.

The young lady concerned sustained a bump on her head.

The St. Johns people were quickly on the job with an ice pack and soothing words.

The ground was a bit dusty, but dust comes with the territory, doesn't it?

Conditions over the entire weekend were Goldilocks weather. Not to hot and not too cold. Just right.

And for the first time in a generation of tom cats, it didn't threaten rain!

The committee was generally well pleased with the result, even though the crowd was down a bit on some previous years.

Even though you aim for it, you can't set a record every time.

As I've said above, it's over for another year. If you were there, you'll have enjoyed it.

If you weren't, then you missed a great event. Try harder to be there next year.

See you next time.
